Welcome Back!!!

Hi everyone,

I wanted to use this first blog post as an opportunity to tell you a bit about myself.

My full name is Benjamin Russell Poff and I was born and raised in Northeast Portland. Until recently I have lived virtually my entire life in the city of roses. I have two younger brothers, and the three of us grew up playing soccer and participating in Boy Scouts.

Now entering my ninth year of full time teaching, I have taught at three schools over the course of my career, teaching Language Arts and Social Studies to grades 7th-12th. Including: U.S. History, A.P. U.S. History, Government, Global Studies, Sociology, Fisheries and two years as a writing instructor to name a few.

My family includes my wife Angela and our two daughters Lily and Kayleah. The big news for us is that over the summer we moved out of Portland and into the community of Woodburn. This greatly shortens my commute to MRA as well as gives us a quieter lifestyle to raise the girls. Lily also transferred to MRA at the end of last year and is excited to start first grade with Ms. Harris this year!

In my spare time I enjoy spending time with my family, reading and writing, playing disc golf, building lego, working in the woodshop, or gardening.

In the past I have driven across the country twice, spent five summers living on Indian reservations guiding a home repair mission, held jobs in a variety of industries, and never jumped out of an airplane!

I am a person who looks forward to the opportunity presented by daily challenges. Thus, Comprehensive Distance Learning simply becomes the next hurdle to overcome. I, and all the teachers, request your patience, grace, and understanding as we endeavor to lead and guide this year’s learning adventures.

I look forward to working with and getting to know each of you, parents and students, over the course of this year. You may always reach me via email bpoff@mra-k8.com or leave a phone message in the school office: 503-829-6672.

Sincerely,

Ben Poff
